A flower just opened (before it takes on its more usual shape with the petals folded back).

Corolla recurved around 5 cm diameter. When flat (only in just opened flowers) deeply lobed.  The corolla will soon curl  backwards giving the flowers a very unusual sight like a strange red animal.

The upper surface of the corolla is densely
covered with fine purple-brown hairs.
