  A sunburn is a burn to a plant epidermis produced by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, commonly from the sun's rays sunlight or other sources.  
     
More common and severe in susceptible species and in etiolated and variegated plant, it ranges from mild redness, tenderness or decolouration to intense burn with necrosis of the epidermis. The amount of sun needed and tolerated by vary greatly in different species. (See: sun exposure)

It is possible to Limit sun exposure, using sunscreen to prevent severe sunburn. Long-term sun exposure can eventually cause epidermis wrinkling and thickening.
A similar burn can be produced by overexposure to other sources of UV such as from tanning lamps, or welding arcs.
