SPECIAL PLANT
This mature Copiapoa paposoensis fa. is a striking and rare example of natural beauty from Chile’s Pacific coast. With a deep purple-brown body, dense black central spines, and clear signs of flowering, it presents both visual drama and botanical interest. The plant is forming a small clump, with basal offsets that reflect its maturity and robust growth.
Spines emerge from woolly areoles, straight and sharply defined, creating a graphic contrast against the dark, angular ribs. This form is prized for its rich pigmentation, compact habit, and resilience.
Copiapoa paposoensis grows near the foggy cliffs of Paposo, where it survives thanks to the camanchaca—a coastal fog that provides vital humidity in an otherwise rainless environment.
Fun fact:
Its purple tones intensify with strong light and minimal watering, making each specimen evolve in color over time—like a living sculpture.
Cultivation tips:
Grow in a 100% mineral, well-draining mix (pumice, lava rock, coarse sand). Water only when the soil is fully dry, and stop completely in winter. Requires full sun for compact growth and rich coloration. Avoid humidity and stagnant water. In winter, it handles low temperatures if kept totally dry.
