Known interchangeably as Gymnocactus aguirreanum or Acharagma aguirreanum (commonly misspelled “aguirreana”), it is a small cactus with elongated, amber-to-dark-brown needle-like spines and yellow to reddish-yellow blooms at the stem tips.
Gymnocactus beguinii is a small usually solitary, globose cactus with magenta funnel-shaped flowers. The anthers are dark chrome yellow. The style is creamy white.
Grows along with Astrophytum capricorne and Thelocactus rinconensis on the slopes of La Rinconada, a beautiful place between Monterrey and Saltillo, on the border of the states of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila.
