The plant is solitary and can reach up to 50 cm in diameter. The stem has marked and slightly wavy ribs. The stem is dark green to bluish in color. From the areoles sprout 6-9 yellow to red radial spines and 1-4 long, brownish-red central spines. The flowers appear at the apical part of the plant and are bright yellow with purplish stripes on the petals.
