This plant is an example of a cross between two of the most popular Astrophytum cultivars (Astrophytum asterias "SUPERKABUTO" x Astrophytum myriostigma "ONZUKA"); the resulting interspecific F1 hybrid shows intermediate characteristics from both parents. This hybrid is quite rare as these two species rarely produce viable seeds. Over time the plants develop beautiful patterns.
