A compact, cold-adapted cactus native to Patagonia, remarkably resistant to severe freezing temperatures. Develops from tuberous roots that produce basal branching. Features dark green cylindrical stems that may become procumbent with age. Presents robust, firm spines (whitish to light brown) that occasionally develop distinct hooks. Blooms display a color spectrum from yellowish-white to red.
