SPECIAL PLANT

This Copiapoa pseudocoquimbana specimen is a mature and compact cactus, already showing signs of past blooms with visible flower remains on its woolly crown. The vibrant green body is segmented into pronounced, deep ribs with evenly spaced areoles bearing straight, strong spines—coppery brown at the top and whitish at the base—giving it a wild yet tidy appearance.

Copiapoa pseudocoquimbana originates from the arid coastal zones near Coquimbo, northern Chile. Though often mistaken for other columnar species, this plant begins with a globular shape that slowly elongates with age, often developing multiple stems. It's known for its toughness and its surprising ability to flower even in cultivation.

Fun fact:
Despite its name, it is genetically distinct from Copiapoa coquimbana. In the wild, it tends to grow in dense clusters among basaltic rocks.

Cultivation tips:
Use a fully mineral, sharply draining substrate (pumice, coarse sand, lava rock). Water only when the soil is bone dry and completely stop watering in winter. Provide full sun to ensure healthy, compact growth. Avoid humidity and low light. In winter, it tolerates near-freezing temperatures as long as it stays dry.
