Solitary blue-green cactus densely covered—but not entirely hidden—by spines. Spine color, length and thickness vary, yet commonly feature blue-gray tips, with one or two central spines often tipped in violet. Flowers range from bright pink to pure white. Juveniles have circular areoles and only radial spines.
