A compact succulent with upright, four-angled stems. The ridges bear dense brown hair and fine spines. Terminal green leaves drop in winter, forming distinctive gray bands on the green stem. Unmistakable in its genus. Bears small scarlet flowers at the stem tips in spring, adding vivid seasonal color.
