F. carminifilamentosa is a morphological form of the variable Frailea pumila, distinguished by its carmine-colored filaments (hence the name). The stem is globular, slightly depressed at the apex. Dense areoles bear yellowish radial spines. Bright yellow flowers emerge from the top, featuring striking red stamens.
