Syn: Lobivia haematantha v. kuehnrichii, sometimes misspelled "kuehnrichiana"

It is distinguished by its slightly smaller, solitary (rarely clustering) body, with long, twisted black hooked spines. The flowers are large, red with a white throat circle (occasionally yellow, salmon, orange, to carmine). Frost-resistant.
