SPECIAL PLANT – Mammillaria nejapensis f. cristata is a fascinating and rare variety, distinguished by its crested growth that forms elegant waves and spirals. This natural phenomenon, called fasciation, makes each specimen unique, with sculpted-like shapes and textures. Its body color ranges from light green to yellow-orange, adorned with a dense network of fine but strong white spines. During flowering, it may produce small white-pink flowers, adding an extra touch of beauty.
Cultivation:
Mammillaria nejapensis f. cristata thrives in bright light and prefers full sun or partial shade. It requires a highly draining soil mix, such as cactus substrate with added sand or perlite, to prevent water retention.
Watering should be moderate: in spring and summer, water only when the soil is completely dry. During autumn and winter, significantly reduce watering to prevent root rot. This plant is adapted to arid climates and is drought-tolerant but does not tolerate extreme cold, so it should be protected from temperatures below 5°C.
Due to its crested growth, this cactus is more delicate than standard forms, so handle it carefully to avoid breakage. With proper care, Mammillaria nejapensis f. cristata will become a prized gem in your cactus collection.
