Thelocactus rinconensis is one of the most decorative cacti of the deserts of Mexico and extremely variable in its spines. The remarkable characteristics of this cultivar are the glaucous body and long dark-brown central spines.
Noted for its deep red blooms, the condorensis variety has larger, spherical stems densely set with minute spines, creating the illusion of being covered in tiny white spiders.
Echinocereus freudenbergeri L1032 grows in the Sierra de la Paila, together with Gymnocactus aguirreanus and Escobaria zilziana. It has clustering cylindrical stems with dense yellowish spines, longer brown central spine, fantastic pink flowers.
Echinocereus reichenbachii v. burrensis is one of the smaller Echinocereus species with thigt amber coloured pectinate spines. It is very beautiful expecially when in flower.
Stetsonia coryne, the only species of the genus Stetsonia, is a large, tree-like columnar cactus 3-10 m tall and is one of the most striking features of hot desert regions in Argentina. It is famous for the fiercely spines to 10 cm long.
Echinocereus reichenbachii ssp. baileyi 'minor' (albispinus) has small multi-clumping stems with mainly white spines. Medium light pink flowers with white centers. Winter hardy/Winterhart.
