A majestic columnar cactus with matte emerald-green stems and deep ribs. Areoles bear whitish radial spines and long yellow-grey central spines up to 10 cm. Mature plants produce huge, spectacular white night-blooming flowers.

Trichocereus validus, also known as Echinopsis valida, is closely related to Trichocereus terscheckii.
