SPECIAL PLANT – The Copiapoa calderana from Caldera is a rare cactus native to Chile’s arid regions, known for its resilience and exotic appeal. It features a bluish-green stem with pronounced ribs and a dense covering of long, sturdy spines that protect it from intense sunlight and dehydration. As it matures, it may develop clustering growth and produce stunning yellow flowers from its apex.
Cultivation: It thrives in full sun and requires highly draining soil, such as a mix of sand and pumice. Water only when the substrate is completely dry, reducing watering significantly in winter to prevent rot. It is drought-tolerant but sensitive to extreme cold, so it should be kept above 5°C or sheltered in a greenhouse during colder months. Ideal for collectors, rock gardens, or pot cultivation.
