Exceptionally winter hardy (-45°C), Opuntia camanchica resembles O. phaeacantha in habit but, it grows taller (50 cm) and stays more upright in winter. Its distinctive feature is the array of stout spines displaying remarkable color variation - red, white, blue-black, brown, and purplish hues. Flowers are yellow with red centers.
